A Brief History Of KK

Since 1999, Kevin Kerrigan (aka "KK") has produced music for a prestigious & diverse range of clients – from collaborations with the world's top recording artists, composing for film and TV, and even co-creating a popular series of children's albums along the way

KK began his professional career in the late 1990s, with Mercury Records (Universal) where he worked with Blur/ Smiths producer Steven Street. In time his pioneering sound caught the ear of the legendary Brian Eno (U2/Bowie), who branded him an “alchemist", notably co-producing the band James critically acclaimed album "Pleased To Meet You" together. Next the Icelandic singer Bjórk asked KK to work with her on some of her most inventive and critically acclaimed work.

Kevin then spent a few years in the world of pop - working with many of the world's top chart acts such as: Dido, Britney Spears, Kylie, Sting, Craig David, Shaznay Lewis (All Saints), Will Young, KT Tunstall, Santana, Beautiful South, Yusuf Islam (aka Cat Stevens), Mediaeval Baebes and Natalie Imbruglia, and producers such as Nellee Hooper (Gwen Stefani/U2), Melanie C, Nelly Furtado, Jon Kelly (Kate Bush), Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), Rick Nowels (Madonna) and Cathy Dennis (Kylie/Britney) to name but a few.

With time and experience KK's skills became broader and more versatile, and he was soon composing soundtracks for independent films, releasing his own cinematic dreamlike artist music, and involving himself in an eclectic range of media productions – from musical directing circus shows (for the National Theatre and infamous London nightclub Shunt), even scoring horror game soundtrack “Raw Fear” (Re:Creation).

Kevin's experience with feature film scoring began in the early 2000s when veteran Hollywood composer, James Newton Howard, asked KK to craft moody music beds and atmospheric sound design for the blockbuster Michael Mann /Tom Cruise thriller “Collateral”(Paramount). Since, Kevin has composed several feature films including "Consumed" (US,2022), "The Alternate" (US,2021),“The Thompsons” (US,2012), "Holy Ghost People" (US,2013), "A Beginners Guide To Snuff" (US,2016), "The Night Watchmen" (US,2017) and "Star Light" (US,2019)

In 2004, Kevin and Zero 7's Sophie Barker created “Lullaby” the first of “The Rainbow Collections” children's music series for Sony Music. Over the years this has become a huge success, and is a standard favourite amongst kids and parents alike (with four more albums to date, “Dreams” ,“Toybox” , “Snowflake” & “Sing”)

Kevin has written extensively for TV – with clients including: Channel 4, BBC, Netflix, HBO, Discovery, UKTV, ITV, E4, Bravo, TLC, History, Lifetime, MTV, ABC, including some popular UK shows such as "Stage School" (E4), "Lookalikes" (Channel 4). His music has also been used in advertising, for brands such as: British Airways, B&Q, Land Rover, Chivas, Google, Jonnie Walker, Sputnik and dnbBank (Norway).

Kevin (with Sophie Barker) is also co-founder of a children's charity - The RCCF (Rainbow Collections Childrens Foundation)- whose projects have included work with Great Ormond Street Hospital, community projects in rural Kenya and with the Mayan people of Central America. Music from these projects can be heard on the community non profit label "Earth Sound Music".

These projects and further adventures to Asia, Australasia, Europe and the Americas, and a deep love of nature and humanity flow through the vibrant shades and emotional textures of his original works.

In addition to soundtracks and productions, Kevin is also a recording artist - "Shipwrecks" (2022), "The Comet Tides" (2020), "Chiaroscuro" (2019), "Solasta" (2017), "Empty World" (2011), and "The Magic Lantern" (2009) - are notable releases which blend a soft, ambient dreamlike quality with 19th century classical aesthetics.

Kevin is also passionate about mentorship and music education and has from time to time lectures on music and composition to the next generation of producers at top institutions such as Point Blank Music School and Guildhall School Of Music

Years of proven experience running numerous, complex and broad-ranging projects (large and small) have left Kevin and his team with an impressive practical skill and service set - with bespoke composition, music production, orchestration / arrangement, sound design, sound engineering, editing, programming, and mixing all now key elements of his repertoire, together with a comprehensive studio team and network of the very best musicians, creative collaborators, studios, and sound engineers in the UK.
